Used to think the goal was reaching the shore. _{Now I’m not so sure.}

Maybe the goal is learning how to swim long enough to recognize yourself in the middle of the ocean.

For a long time I thought life was a series of destinations. Get the job. Get the apartment. Build the brand. Find the people. Heal the wound. Reach the other side.

Simple.

Until one day I looked around and realized most of my life has actually been spent somewhere between where I started and where I thought I was going.

Out here.

No landmarks.

No applause.

No certainty.

Just water.

^{Funny enough, that’s where I’ve learned the most.}

I’ve learned that some people will only know one version of you and swear they know the whole story. It’s cool. One chapter could never explain the whole book.

Not the musician.

Not the security guard.

Not the writer.

Not the founder.

Not the kid from the Bronx.

Not the man I’m becoming.

Just chapters. Important chapters, sure. But chapters nonetheless.

The mistake is assuming the story stopped where you stopped reading.

Lately I’ve been thinking about regret. People ask if I’d change anything.

Truthfully? ^{I’m not sure.}

Because every lesson arrived disguised as something else.

The blessing looked like a setback.

The opportunity looked like a delay.

The wisdom looked like a mistake.

The growth looked like loss.

Nah.

No Regrets Thus Far, Only Stripes.

The kind nobody can give you and nobody can take away.

The kind that comes from staying in the water when turning back would’ve been easier.

And if you’re reading this from your own stretch of ocean, wondering if you’re behind, wondering if you’re lost, wondering if everybody else somehow got a map you never received..

I get it.

Some days I still feel that way too.

But maybe we’re not lost. ^{We’re just early.}

Maybe the shoreline exists even when we can’t see it.

Maybe our work is trusting our stroke before the land appears.

So this isn’t a victory speech.

It’s a field report.

The Field Report number 001 ^{to be exact.} Dispatching from somewhere between departure and arrival.

I’m still swimming.

Still learning.

Still building.

Still becoming.

And for whatever comes next, I’m grateful.

Not because every chapter was easy.

But because every chapter was mine.
